Sleeker 2018 Chevrolet Traverse revealed with new tech, 2.0L turbo option
The Chevrolet Traverse is all-new for 2018 and adopts a new look inspired by the bow-tie brand's full-size SUVs. Making its official debut at this year's North American International Auto Show, the 2018 Traverse receives a bolder, more refined look and finish, as well as new technologies for a safer, more connected drive according to Chevy.
“The all-new Traverse offers the ultimate in style and convenience for the segment, with the versatility customers need and a thoughtful, spacious design they’ll love. It’s the midsize SUV designed to help keep you safe, comfortable and connected,” said Alan Batey, president of GM North America and brand chief of Global Chevrolet.
As mentioned earlier, the 2018 Traverse loses the boxy exterior design in favor of a sleeker shape. The front fascia gets styling cues from the updated Malibu, specifically the headlight design and signature dual port grill. It even gets trim accents for the foglights as extra brightwork. Huge 20-inch wheels will be available for the RS model while a polished set will come as standard for the range-topping High Country.
Around the back, wraparound taillights flank the rear quarters while a tailgate-mounted spoiler, dual exhaust pipes and a center chrome piece adds a bit of sophistication to the SUV.
The increase in size allowed Chevy to extend the wheelbase, as well as put the wheel wells at the far corners to improve cabin space and handling. With it, Chevrolet is confident that the new Traverse will deliver best-in-class passenger and cargo space.
Inside, leather upholstery blankets the interior of the 2018 Traverse. Depending on the customer's preference, the new-generation crossover can be had with either 7 or 8 seats. With the former, the second row gets ottoman seats that come with armrests. Over to in-car connectivity, Chevy's MyLink system manages the onboard infotainment and is available with either a 7- or 8-inch display.
Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, USB charging ports in all rows of seats and wireless charging will also be standard features in the new Traverse. High-range models will even be fitted with front power seats.
Engine options for the 2018 Traverse include a turbocharged 2.0-liter inline-four and a naturally-aspirated 3.6-liter V6. The former pushes out 258 PS and 400 Nm of torque while the latter generates 309 PS along with 352 Nm of torque. Both engines are mated to a 9-speed automatic gearbox. The V6 can be had as an all-wheel-drive (AWD) crossover as the turbocharged RS is strictly a front-wheel-drive model.
In terms of safety and other equipment, the 2018 Traverse can be equipped with several features like: Surround Vision Camera, LED headlights, front pedestrian braking, forward collision alert, lane keep assist forward automatic braking for high and low speeds.
The 2018 Chevrolet Traverse will arrive in US dealerships by the end of the year.
