A new entry-level engine will become available for the 5-door version of the Mini One come March.
It is a TwinPower Turbo 1.2-liter three-cylinder that has variable camshaft control from the intake and exhaust side, allowing the engine to produce 75 PS and 150 Nm of torque at 1,400 rpm. It is then mated to a newly-developed 6-speed manual gearbox which has been made lighter and more efficient. The gearbox also has integrated gear sensors that enables what the company describes as 'harmonious and dynamic shifting'.
It can accelerate from 0 – 100 km/h in 13.4 seconds and with the new gearbox, Mini claims that it has an average fuel consumption of 19.2 km/l.
There are no reports yet whether the new engine will be offered to different markets around the world.
