Updated 2018 MX-5 roadster and retractable fastback now available

For pure driving pleasure, few things can really compare to an open top sports car. And now the number one selling roadster in the country (and in the world) is about to make it even better.

Mazda Philippines has just announced that they are introducing the updated versions of the fourth generation MX-5, and the upgrades can be seen on the soft-top and retractable fastback (RF) variants.

2018 Mazda MX-5 RF update

“There has always been a strong demand for the MX-5 in the Philippines,” said Mr. Steven Tan, Mazda Philippines President and CEO. “By offering our customers not only an improved product, but also more trim options to choose from, we believe our fans will be able to find the ideal sports car that expresses their love and passion for driving.”

Starting with the soft-top line, Mazda will be offering a new range-topping MX-5 variant with a six-speed SkyActiv automatic gearbox and a Dark Cherry fabric for the top. The MX-5 soft top automatic will also get a Nappa leather interior.

Mazda will now be offering the Mazda MX-5 RF with a 6-speed manual transmission and standard black leather. There is also an automatic variant that will come with black leather; previously, the RF was only available with the 6-speed automatic and Nappa leather.

Beyond the new trim and gearbox options, Mazda says that there are also a lot of improvements as well. Mazda is retaining the 2.0L SkyActiv engine, but the suspension has been refined and the steering have been retuned for the soft top version; Mazda says the improvements result in an enhanced ride and more agile handling for the soft top.

There are also new features like Adaptive LED headlamps for the RF variants as well as the automatic version of the MX-5 soft top. Lane Departure Warning is also standard on the RF line and the automatic MX-5 roadster.

Mazda has also expanded the color options for the MX-5 by offering Machine Gray and Soul Red for all variants as an option for an extra PhP 16,800. Interestingly, the new Soul Red Crystal will be offered as a 22,400 option for all variants except the top-of-the-line soft top.
