Traveling between Bukidnon and Misamis Oritental (and vice versa) will soon be a breeze thanks to a new bypass road being built by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH).
It's called the Alae Bypass Road and will serve as an alternate route for motorists coming from Alae, Bukidnon to Tagoloan, Misamis Oriental and vice versa. The new route will start at Barangay Casinglot in Tagoloan, Misamis Oriental and will end at Barangay Alae, Manolo Fortich, Bukidnon.
According to DPWH Region X Director Zenaida T. Tan, the project is already near 90% completion and involves the construction of a new 10-kilometer road, along with the improvement of 7-kilometer existing roadway. Moreover, there will be three new bridges as well as drainage systems that are being built along the new bypass road.
Once completed, it will divert traffic along the busy Sayre Highway in Puerto-Alae Section. Apart from that, the new bypass road will also serve as an alternate thoroughfare for cargo trucks heading towards Mindanao Container Terminal (MCT) in Tagoloan.
The DPWH has already received a total of Php 1.76 billion for the ongoing project. An additional Php 200 million will still be needed in order for it to be finished and opened to the public come November 2019. The Alae Bypass Road is part of the proposed Cagayan de Oro Alternate Highway and is among the priority projects in the provinces of Bukidnon and Misamis Oritenal.
