Going to and from Fairview during rush hours should be faster
Earlier this year, the Quezon City Government implemented a temporary new zipper lane along Commonwealth Avenue, allowing motorists to shortcut to UP Diliman and CP Garcia. Now, there’s a new one in place, and it will help alleviate the traffic woes of motorists heading towards Fairview and Novaliches.
Last April 5, 2021, the Quezon City Government opened two new zipper lanes along Commonwealth Avenue near the Fairview area. These are meant to help address the constant traffic congestion in the area during both morning and afternoon rush hours. The two zipper lanes will be opened during two periods – one in the morning and the other in the afternoon.
The AM Zipper Lane will be open from 5:30 AM to 8:00 AM, Mondays to Saturdays. It will start at the junction of Commonwealth Avenue and Regalado Highway and end at the intersection of Commonwealth Avenue and Camaro Street. Meanwhile, the PM Zipper Lane will be open from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM, Mondays to Saturdays. It will start from the junction of Commonwealth Avenue and Fairlane Street and end at the intersection of Commonwealth Avenue and Regalado Highway.
According to the Quezon City LGU, only light vehicles and motorcycles will be allowed to use the zipper lane. All vehicles must also stay in the middle of the lane. No two vehicles shall be allowed side-by-side with each other, and overtaking will not be permitted. Traffic lights along Commonwealth Avenue will be turned to flashing mode during zipper lane operating hours. With that, motorists are advised to pay attention to the signals made by Quezon City and MMDA traffic enforcers assigned to the area.
Hopefully, the flow of traffic along Commonwealth Avenue near Fairview will be lighter during rush hour with these new zipper lanes. However, only time will tell if they will be effective.
