Hyundai's people carrier has just received a makeover and is now in the Philippines. Say hello to the 2018 Grand Starex GLS. Featuring a fresh new look as well as a more comfortable interior, the Grand Starex is poised to take a big slice of the lucrative people carrier segment.
Starting with the most obvious change, the 2018 Grand Starex GLS now comes with a fresh face. Gone are the vertical-style headlights as the updated people carrier now comes with sleek horizontal units. Beyond that, the Grand Starex also received a new front grill, along with a slightly tweaked front bumper.
Changes at the back were minimal at best although Hyundai did install a tailgate-mounted spoiler for the updated Grand Starex. Topping everything off in the refreshed people carrier are the new side skirts and restyled 16-inch alloy wheels.
Since the changes were only given to the top-of-the-range GLS, lesser variants such as the GL and GL 18-seater models still come with the pre-facelift exterior.
Inside, the 2018 Grand Starex keeps its beige interior from before. However, the GLS model now comes with swivel seats for the middle row. With it, passengers can relax in a lounge-like cabin. Other in-car features present in the Grand Starex GLS are: manual air-conditioning for the front and rear, 1-DIN sound system with AM/FM radio, CD, USB and Aux, leather-wrapped steering wheel and a multi-info display.
Under the hood is the ever-familiar 2.5-liter CRDi turbo-diesel inline-four. It produces 170 PS at 3600 rpm along with 442 Nm of torque at 2000 – 2250 rpm. A five-speed automatic transmission with manual select serves as the lone transmission option for the refreshed people carrier.
Standard safety features on the 2018 Grand Starex GLS include: dual front SRS airbags, anti-lock brakes (ABS), electronic stability (ESP), keyless entry with alarm and reverse parking sensors.
The 2018 Hyundai Grand Starex GLS A/T retails for Php 2,085,000.
