GAC gives the 2021 GA4 a boost... literally
As more automakers shift towards crossovers, the humble family sedan isn't getting the same attention. Thankfully, there are still manufacturers who want to build four-door sedans. One of them is GAC, and they just updated the GA4.
This time around, it's dubbed the GA4 Plus, and it gets a fresher front end and a new engine under the hood. The GA4 Plus adapts the new design language of the brand with its more prominent grille and angular headlights. The bumper also gets a more aggressive design with upright corner air intakes.
The rest of the body is largely unchanged from the current model. However, there are a few tweaks to complement the heavy facelift done to the front end. New for 2021 is the wheel options with the top-spec models getting 17-inch two-tone split-spoke alloys. Lower-grade variants get smaller multi-spoke wheels. The rear tail lights incorporate a new LED pattern, and the bumper gets integrated diffusers.
Inside, GAC changed the dashboard to accommodate the new infotainment screen. Whereas the old screen was integrated into the dash, the 2021 model incorporates a floating design. The new screen is also wider than before and boasts high-definition graphics. The top of the line model also comes standard with a digital instrument cluster.
Now for the biggest update, the engine. GAC simplified the range by offering just one option. Gone are the 1.3-liter turbo and 1.5-liter naturally-aspirated engines. Instead, the 2021 GA4 now uses a new 1.5-liter turbo that is more powerful than the old boosted 1.3-liter.
From 136 PS and 200 Nm of torque, the new 1.5-liter turbo bumps it up to 163 PS and 235 Nm of torque. Perhaps the most interesting part here is the availability of a six-speed manual transmission. It replaces the old five-speed shifter from the pre-facelift models. Also new for 2021 is the seven-speed dual-clutch transmission.
