President Rodrigo Duterte has appointed retired Philippine Army Brigadier General Danilo Lim as Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) Chairman.

He takes over from Thomas Orbos who will remain as General Manager of the MMDA. Assuming his post formally on Tuesday, Lim said that he aims to eliminate corruption in the MMDA by implementing strict discipline.

“I ask for the support and cooperation of everybody. I am not here to make anybody’s life difficult. Let us all work together for a better Metro Manila,” said Lim.

Lim sees the strict implementation of traffic rules and regulations as the main solution to reducing vehicular congestion in Metro Manila.

“At this time, I will not be introducing any fancy traffic scheme. By going back to basics I mean strict adherence to our existing laws, practicing a culture of discipline, road courtesy, and changing the habits of the people,” added Lim.
