New York 2013: Jaguar unveils XJR and XKR-S GT high performance models


XKR-S GT launched alongside XJR

Jaguar has just unveiled to the world it two new addition to its R performance vehicles with the XJR and the XKR-S GT at the 2013 New York International Auto Show. While the XJR aims to bring supercar performance level to the luxurious XJ model lineup, the XKR-S GT aims to be Jaguar's ultimate track-ready version of the XK coupe road car.

The Jaguar XJR is the first 'R' model in the current generation XJ lineup and will be positioned as the brand's flagship sports saloon. It features a 550PS 5.0-liter supercharged V8 engine that is paired to an 8-speed automatic transmission which delivers power to the rear wheels. This amazing power figure makes it possible for the XJR to sprint from zero to 100km/h in just 4.4 seconds before it eventually reach its electronically limited top speed of 280km/h.


A number of advanced electronic stability controls work in harmony with the suspension, wheels and tires to deliver the XJR driving experience.

Subtle exterior styling cues, like the front splitter, special 'R' bonnet louvers and quad tailpipes not only make the car look more aggressive but also optimizes airflow over and around the car. Meanwhile, its interior maintains the luxurious feel of the XJ and is fitted with a standard 380W, 12-speaker surround-sound system from British audio experts Meridian.

Meanwhile, Jaguar claims the XKR-S GT to be the brand's most extreme iteration of the R performance line. It was extensively developed by Jaguar's ETO division as a track-focused version of the XK coupe.

It is equipped with Jaguar's 5.0-liter turbocharged V8 engine that's mated to a six-speed manual transmission for ultimate driver control and features an active electronic differential. Straight-line acceleration from zero to 100km/h is at 3.9 seconds and has an electronically limited top speed of 299km/h.

Aside from the powertrain upgrade, the exterior has also gone through extensive aerodynamic and suspension upgrades utilizing a range of bespoke carbon-fiber components, as well as the addition of 398mm and 380mm(front and rear) carbon ceramic brakes for optimum performance.

The two-seater coupe features a warm charcoal interior with red accents and has a 16-way electrically adjustable 'performance' seats finished in soft-grain warm charcoal leather and suede with the Jaguar and R-S GT scripts integrated into the backrests. Jet Suede cloth headlining and a Jet Suedecloth steering wheel, with aluminum paddle shifters, are also fitted as standard.

To maintain its exclusivity, Jaguar has set a 30-car production limit on the of the XSR-S GT for the North American market.
