Land Rover has revealed the official images of the Discovery Vision Concept SUV ahead of its scheduled debut at the 2014 New York International Auto Show.
The automaker says the Discovery Vision Concept previews a “dynamic new design language and an array of innovative versatility and capability features.” Land Rover’s SUV concept will also showcase technologies from the Jaguar Land Rover advanced research division.
The British automaker also says the Discovery Vision Concept represents the “dawn of a new era with a radical and sharply focused approach to embodying Land Rover’s vision of the premium SUV.”
The design of the Land Rover’s new SUV concept embodies the lineage of the Discovery nameplate, with elements such as the stepped roof and alpine windows. Moreover, the Discovery Vision Concept has optimized proportions and clean lines.
“The Discovery Concept vehicle represents a Vision of our future family of leisure SUVs. Its modern, relevant and compelling design is a significant shift from Discovery as we know it, while well considered practicality, configurability and Land Rover’s capability seamlessly blend to create a highly desirable vehicle that connects on an emotional level,” said Gerry McGovern, Design Director and Chief Creative Officer of Land Rover.
Inside, the cabin is finished in Foglizzo premium leather. The floor and the instrument panel of the vehicle is designed with wood veneer. The seats of the Discovery Vision Concept can be reconfigured via touchscreen, allow these to fold and to slide backwards and forwards.
The concept also features new technologies, such as the Human-Machine Interface that offers multimedia connectivity with minimal driver distraction. Various functions, including the doors, indicators, and headlamps can be operated by the gesture recognition control. The vehicle also features the remote control drive technology in which the driver can maneuver the car at low speed via wireless control.
Furthermore, the Discovery Vision Concept is equipped with a visual assistance from Laser Referencing that recognizes the different elements onto ground surface. Another technology present in the SUV concept is the Transparent Hood display that gives drivers an unimpeded view of the ground ahead. The Discovery Vision Concept also has a camera mounted below the grill, which feeds videos to the head-up display that is integrated on the vehicle’s windshield.
However, Land Rover has not yet release the details reagrding the powertrain of the Discovery Vision Concept.
