With just a few days left before the 2016 New York International Auto Show, Chevrolet has revealed another car that is slated to debut during the annual auto show. It’s the 2017 Chevrolet Sonic and it features an updated look, new technologies and an optional turbocharged powertrain.
“The new styling and features of the 2017 Sonic reinforce its position as a fun, efficient small car with leading technology – all at an affordable price. This is an important segment for Chevrolet, as we really have an opportunity to introduce ourselves to new buyers and show them what we’re all about,” said Steve Majoros, Director of Marketing, Chevrolet Cars and Crossovers.
Kicking things off with its exterior, the front fascia sports the brand’s current design language. It gets wide projector-type wraparound headlights, daytime running lamps (DRLs), larger dual-port grill design, front lip spoiler and circular foglights. Towards the side are creases of character lines, flared wheel arches and distinct alloy wheels available in 15-, 16- or 17-inch sizes.
The rear, on the other hand, gets reworked combination taillights reminiscent from the Trax, new rear bumper and tailgate and a bigger tailgate-mounted spoiler. The sedan variant also gets the same revisions and only differs from its alloy wheels, new trunk design and duckbill spoiler.
Interior images were not provided though Chevrolet did say it gets a sportier cabin with added features. Aimed to deliver comfort, convenience and technology according to Chevrolet, it gets a new dual gauge cluster, uprated MyLink infotainment system with Apple Carplay and Android Auto compatibility, 4G LTE and Wi-Fi hotspot.
RS variants come exclusive with model-specific floor mats, piano black interior trim, flat-bottom steering wheel and red cloth seats.
Under the hood, the 2017 Sonic will be available with two engine choices. Entry-level variants are powered by a 1.8-liter inline-four, while higher-grade models get the more powerful 1.4-liter turbo inline-four which puts out 140 PS. Transmissions available include either a 6-speed manual or 6-speed automatic.
Safety tech present in US-spec variants of the 2017 Sonic include: Forward Collision Alert, Lane Departure Warning, ten airbags, Electronic Stability Control, anti-lock brakes and Rear Park Assist with reverse camera.
