With sales hitting a five year high, Jeep is aiming to keep their momentum going with the updated Jeep Grand Cherokee. For this year's New York Auto Show, Jeep unveiled two new variants of its best-selling SUV, the off-road oriented Trailhawk and the revised Summit.
For 2017, the Grand Cherokee gets an updated front fascia, revised tail lights, a more plush interior and updated technologies.
The Trailhawk is a new addition to the Grand Cherokee lineup. Being an off-road package, it gets raised suspension and rides on 18 inch rims wrapped in all-terrain tires. Jeep has also installed a detachable front bumper for a wider approach angle when off-roading.
This off-road spec Grand Cherokee also gets special damping for its air suspension and its setting are unique to the Trailhawk. According to Jeep, the specially tuned dampers offer better articulation for climbing over rocks and keeps the wheels in contact with the ground as much as possible. Increasing the Trailhawk's off-road capability even further is a rear electronic limited slip differential. Heavy duty tow hooks and a blacked out hood further differentiates the Trailhawk from the rest of the range.
From off-road to on-road, Jeep also revised the top-spec Summit model. Exterior changes are the same as the ones mentioned above with a few additions. First, it gets new LED foglights and a chrome honeycomb grill. It also rides on new 20-inch polished wheel with with a multi-spoke pattern, replacing the old 5 spoke wheels.
For an enhanced cabin ambiance, the Summit's interior is now fully trimmed in Laguna leather in Indigo, Ski Gray and two other color options. The full leather interior boasts a Nappa leather-wrapped dashboard, center console and door panels, and Laguna leather seats with edge welting. In addition, all Summit models come equipped with a suede premium headliner, lighted door sill, acoustic windshield and full side glass, Active Noise Cancellation, premium Berber carpet mats and a Harmon/Kardon 19-speaker, 825 watt amp audio system with three subwoofers.
As with all Jeeps, the Grand Cherokee Summit comes standard with Quadra-Drive II 4x4 system with ELSD. For a softer ride, Quadra-Lift air suspension and Selec-Speed Control is fitted to all Grand Cherokee Summit models.
Three engine options are available in all Grand Cherokee variants. The base engine is a 3.6 liter V6 Pentastar engine with 298 PS. Other engines include a 5.7 liter HEMI V8 with 360 PS and a 3.0 liter Eco-Diesel putting out 245 PS.
