Subaru staged the world premiere of the Ascent 7-seater SUV concept at the New York Auto Show. With the debut of the concept comes the confirmation of 'Ascent' as the name of Subaru's upcoming 3-row SUV.
Initially previewed by the Viziv-7 concept which debuted at last year's LA Auto Show, the Ascent is styled with Subaru's 'Dynamic x Solid' theme with powerful fender flares representing Subaru’s all-wheel drive system and a large, bluff grille denoting a true SUV look. The concept was fitted with 21-inch wheels wrapped with 275/50 R21 tires.
The Ascent SUV Concept measures 5,050 mm long, 1,999 mm wide and 1,839 mm tall with a 2792 mm wheelbase.
Inside, the concept features a flowing dashboard design and a 7-passenger configuration with center captain's chairs.
The Ascent will be built on a modified version of the Subaru Global Platform. Under the hood will be an all-new turbocharged direct injection boxer engine.
To be built at Subaru's plant in Lafayette, Indiana, the Japanese automaker says it will be sold exclusively in the North American market starting in 2018.
