When Maserati first introduced the Levante back in 2016, one could only order it with either a twin-turbo V6 or a turbocharged diesel six-cylinder. Now, the Italian manufacturer has decided to give their SUV a large boost in performance by cramming a twin-turbo V8, which according to Maserati is 'the highest output per liter of any Maserati powerplant ever produced.' Welcome the Levante Trofeo.

Sitting under the hood of the new Levante Trofeo is a 3.8-liter twin-turbo V8 which produces 590 PS and 730 Nm of torque. This enables the high-performance SUV to accelerate from 0 to 100km/h in just 3.9 seconds and reach a top speed of 300 km/h. The new powerplant is built by Ferrari in Maranello and is also the same unit used in the 488 GTB albeit detuned.

To suit the Levante Trofeo's increase in power, Maserati has also retuned the suspension. According to the company, it provides both a proper driving experience but without sacrificing the comforts of that an SUV offers. The brand also claims that the Levante Trofeo offers a perfect 50:50 weight balance coupled with a low center of gravity.

Externally, the Levante Trofeo differentiates itself from its non-V8 counterpart by having a more aggressive design. There is a new front bumper with larger air intakes and a larger front grill with vertical bars finished in black, chanelling cold air into the engine. At the rear, there is a new diffuser with the exhausts integrated into it. A new set of 22-inch forged aluminum wheels hide the larger brake calipers which help stop the performance SUV.
