Next-gen Honda City coming in 2020

Honda Cars India boss says a new City will arrive in two years

The B-segment sedan market is booming. There's the new Santana from Volkswagen, Suzuki's all-new Dzire and facelifted Ciaz, along with the all-new Toyota Vios. So what's happening over at the Honda camp with the City? Well, it looks like it won't be long until we see an all-new model, at least according to Honda Cars India's managing director, Yoichiro Ueno.

Ueno spoke to Autocar India and told them that the next-gen City will arrive sometime in 2020. By that time, the current model will be six years old, which is typical for the City. First introduced in 2014, the fourth-generation (sixth if you include the Japan-only hatchbacks from the 80's) City got a facelift about a year ago. It is also known as the Honda Grace in its home market.

So what can we expect in the 2020 Honda City? So far, there's not a lot of information floating around. So far, the only piece of news is the fact that it will come with a hybrid model, which the Japanese-market Grace already has. There will also be a diesel version too, just like the current India-spec City. No word about the gas engines though, but it's likely it will still be a 1.5-liter. As for its design, it is possible that the all-new City could take some cues from its big brother, the Civic.

With that, it is also possible that an all-new Jazz/Fit will come at the dawn of the new decade. Like the City, there isn't much news surrounding it just yet, but that can change in the next couple of months.
