The “Race Car For The Road” will not be manufactured in Japan anymore as Honda has announced that all 2015 Civic Type Rs will be made at the company's facility located in Swindon, UK.

Previously, the third generation Civic Type R was available with two versions, the Asia-only FD2 and the European FN2. But with the 10th-generation Civic to be based on the European version, the automaker has decided that the 2015 Civic Type R will be solely built in Britain since it will also become the global hub of the upcoming compact car.

Honda Motor Company CEO Takahiro Hachigo announced that the first units of the 2015 Civic Type R are destined for the Japanese market and are slated to arrive in the country in fall of this year.

“We're delighted that the European Civic Type R will be sold to customers in Honda's home country of Japan. Customers are really excited about this car and we're developing a significant order bank here in Europe. Exporting the car to Japan will only serve to increase demand further, which is great news, said Philip Ross, Senior Vice President for Honda Motor Europe.

Soichiro Takizawa, Managing Director of Honda UK Manufacturing (HUM), also said in a statement that mass production of the Civic Type R has already begun.

“The new Civic Type R is a significant model for Honda, representing our racing spirit and demonstrating our commitment to innovation and passion. Here at HUM, we are extremely proud to be the only manufacturer of the Civic Type R in the world. Our high standards have earned us this privilege and this is the testament to the continued commitment of our associates,” said Takizawa.
