Lexus is full of surprises so far this 2021. Apart from launching the IS 500 F Sport Performance, the Japanese luxury brand will be introducing the next-generation NX. Yes, they have been quiet about it, and no, they have not released any teasers yet. But thanks to this leak, we know for sure that it will be coming very soon. We even know what it will look like once it's out.

A video of the next-generation NX has surfaced on the internet (which has since pulled down), giving us a clear view of the new compact luxury crossover. From the looks of it, the exterior changes aren’t that big compared to the NX we see in dealerships. Specifically, the side windows of the new NX look identical to the current one. But, there are some noteworthy changes to the styling. It features new slimmer LED headlights reminiscent of the smaller UX crossover. The LED daytime running lights have also been integrated into the headlights, giving the front end a cleaner look. Typical with any Lexus, there’s a large spindle grille. Interestingly, there’s a new pattern.

At the rear, the changes are more prominent. The next-generation NX is the latest model in the Lexus range to get an LED light bar. The bumper receives a pair of vertical air vents and chrome faux exhaust tips. Completing the makeover are the new wheels. The aggressive design with larger air vents hints this to be the F-Sport variant of the next-generation NX. However, there are no badges on the side or rear. We will have to wait for the model’s full debut to confirm it.

The leak also shows the NX’s new interior. The dashboard is a significant departure from the soon-to-be outgoing model. Taking center stage is a massive touchscreen infotainment system. Keen-eyed readers may also notice that the touchpad has no more. There’s also a separate control for the dual-zone climate control below the touchscreen.

There’s no word yet on the NX’s powertrain. But from the badge at the rear, it clearly says NX 200. That said, it could use the same powertrain as currently offered. For reference, the current NX uses a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder mill good for 235 HP and 350 Nm torque. There’s also a hybrid model with a 2.5-liter engine paired with an electric motor.

When will Lexus launch the new NX? There’s no official word yet. But with the cat unofficially out of the bag, the automaker might move it up earlier.
