Market for Nissan SUV launch to follow in 2018
For those interested in the seven-seat pick-up platform passenger vehicle (PPV) segment, here's something to look forward to: Nissan will be entering the segment soon.
A Nissan executive has informed us that the SUV that will be based on the Nissan Navara is slated for its global debut in a year's time. As to exactly when, the executive didn't say, though it appears that Nissan is working hard to put out such an important model in a very competitive class.
Following the global reveal, he said that market launch for ASEAN would likely follow in 2018.
In 2014 we reported that Nissan was already working on the vehicle as indicated by the chief engineer of the Navara. Nissan has been developing the SUV that will ride on the Navara's platform for a while now as our spies have caught their test mules and prototypes undergoing testing in various places around the world.
Apart from the traditional truck-type leaf spring suspension, Nissan's pick-up was already offered with multi-link suspension and coil springs; a common feature amongst SUVs and PPVs. Seven seats are also expected of PPVs.
In the Philippines, the PPV category is highly competitive. The current models in the PPV class include the Toyota Fortuner, Mitsubishi Montero Sport, Chevrolet Trailblazer, Isuzu mu-X and the Ford Everest.
Nissan, however, still has not revealed the name of their PPV contender.
