In the following year, Nissan will be celebrating the GT-R's 50th anniversary. The Japanese automaker has already begun celebrations early with the reveal of the GT-R50, a wild concept car designed in collaboration with Italdesign and will soon enter limited production. Now, Nissan plans to continue its flagship model's celebration by partnering with Seiko to create a special watch.
The upcoming GT-R commemorative watch will be part of the Grand Seiko Sports Collection Spring Drive Chronograph GMT series and is based on Grand Seiko's SBGC223G chronograph model. That said, the GT-R 50th anniversary edition watch then underwent a lot of customization and takes inspiration from the GT-R50 by Italdesign being finished in pink gold and black ceramic. Meanwhile, the case back of the watch shows a GT-R logo.
Much like the GT-R50 from which the watch was inspired, the special edition Grand Seiko will also be extremely limited, and very expensive. In fact, it costs more than a brand new Nissan GT-R as it comes with a starting price of ¥20,000,000 (Php 9,588,000) and is limited to only three examples. In comparison, the standard SBGC223G from which the special watch is based off only cost USD 14,800 (Php 800,000) while a brand new Nissan GT-R costs around Php 6,675,000 locally.
While the watch shown here follows the GT-R50's color scheme, lucky buyers may also change the colors of the anniversary GT-R watch to their liking as shown on the Grand Seiko website. There are numerous color options to choose from, making each one possibly unique from the two other models.
Seiko has already begun accepting orders for the GT-R anniversary watch at its flagship store in Tokyo. The Japanese watchmaker will also be exhibiting this special edition model together with the GT-R50 by Italdesign at Nissan Crossing in Ginza, Tokyo.
