For helping build a better future for local communities, Habitat for Humanity (HFH) has awarded Nissan Motor Company, Ltd. as a Prime Mover, thru its local distributors, Nissan Motor Philippines, Inc. (NMPI) and Universal Motors Corporation (UMC). This recognition was given during HFH’s 25th year anniversary celebration in the Philippines held recently at the Glorietta Activity Center.
Prime Movers are companies that fuels HFH's vision of the 'I Build' campaign, these companies take the initiative in providing social investment that creates impact to people's lives.
In the Philippines, NMPI’s involvement includes the donation of one unit of its compact SUV, the X-TRAIL CVT, and in partnership with UMC, the engagement in Ayos Bahay Challenge. In April, NMPI and UMC employees joined forces with HFH in providing emergency shelter kits for use in disasters and conducting emergency preparedness training for the families in Sta. Cruz, Laguna and other disaster-stricken areas.
The distribution activity in Laguna was immediately followed by the “Youth Build Program” wherein NMPI employees joined an estimated 2,000 youth and corporate partners of Habitat for Humanity Philippines to rebuild houses in Navotas.
“It is but natural for Nissan and Habitat for Humanity to forge a partnership, since both corporations complement Nissan’s vision of ‘Enriching People's Lives.’ This is a cornerstone of Nissan’s Blue Citizenship approach to creating a sustainable society,” NMPI President and CEO Allen Chen said.
The global partnership between Nissan and Habitat for Humanity dates back to 2005, but it has only been recently that this engagement was expanded to other markets including the Philippines. In total, Nissan Motor Company Ltd. has donated US$1million to launch joint projects in India, Indonesia and the Philippines.
Apart from Nissan, HFH also named other Prime Movers this year including All Asian Countertrade Inc., NKD International Trading Corporation, Australian Agency for International Development and ING Bank.
