Nissan looks to the future of service vehicles with the e-NV200 Fridge, NV350 Paramedic

Nissan will be at this year's 45th Tokyo Motor Show with two concepts that aim to change the way we look at the typical delivery van and ambulance vehicle. Called the e-NV200 Fridge and NV350 Ambulance concepts, both vehicles come with high-tech features, with the former benefitting from an electric powertrain.

As the name implies, the e-NV200 Fridge is a compact all-electric delivery van. Unlike delivery trucks which take up a lot of space in tight urban environments, the e-NV200's smaller size means it can easily maneuver around side streets. It measures 4560mm long, 1755mm wide and 2150mm tall. Thanks to zero emissions, the e-NV200 Fridge is also environmentally-friendly.

“The e-NV200 Fridge Concept will create huge value for commercial users – generating more business, as well as reducing the cost of ownership. With zero emissions, it'll be perfect for busy urban environments where larger vehicles are often prohibited,” said Ashwani Gupta, vice president of the Renault-Nissan LCV Business Unit.

It has two lithium-ion battery packs that provide power for the vehicle itself and refrigeration unit separately. The powertrain gets a 24 kWh pack while the fridge units gets the smaller 12 kWh. According to Nissan, this will allow the van to store chilled foods and other commodoties.

Next is the NV350 Paramedic which previews the brand's fifth-generation ambulance model. While it may look like any other emergency response vehicle, Nissan mentioned it has a 1.6 kWh auxiliary lithium-ion battery which powers essential equipment like life-support devices. This also means that it can run on the said battery pack without having the engine turned on.

Apart from that the NV350 Paramedic also has technology that reduces the spread of germs inside the vehicle and the Intelligent Around View Monitor 360-degree camera system for safer manuevering.

“Our fifth-generation ambulance will offer enhanced features that will make a real difference to people's lives. The new Paramedic Concept contains vital life-saving equipment to respond to emergencies, often in remote areas,” added Gupta.

Size-wise, the concept measures 5440mm long, 1880mm wide and 2490mm tall. It is powered by a 2.5-liter QR25DE four-cylinder gasoline engine that is mated to a five-speed automatic gearbox.

Nissan plans to begin selling the NV350 Paramedic in production form in 2018.
