Tomorrow Nissan will be holding the global unveiling of the refreshed 2021 Nissan Terra. Set to get a revised look inside and out, the midsize SUV will feature Nissan's new design direction that will look similar to that of the all-new Patrol, and refreshed Navara.
Despite the Terra getting a facelift very soon, Nissan Thailand just released a slightly updated Terra for the 2020 model year. No, this is not yet the refresh we've all been waiting for; actually, it's a bodykit.
“Nissan has updated the new Terra MY20 and distinctive designs and enhanced functionality, creating advanced cars at affordable prices for consumers," said Adisai Sirisinha, vice president, Marketing, Nissan Thailand. “The updated vehicle plays into the growing need of Thai customers to stay connected, also in the car, and to stand out from the crowd. It is for those who dare to take on the impossible.”
Immediately noticeable on the Thai-spec Terra is a bespoke body kit. Called the Energetic Package 2, it's only available on the top-spec VL variant. The updated SUV features sporty front and rear bumpers, an all-black V-Motion front grille, a sleek new rear spoiler, and skid plates for the front and rear. Meanwhile, the cabin gets high-gloss black console trim panels for a more sophisticated finish.
Inside, the Terra gets a more high-tech NissanConnect infotainment system. The automaker claims the new 8-inch touchscreen will allow customers to connect phones to the system seamlessly. It also supports Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and other applications. Those seated at the back will be happy to know that it now comes with HDMI and USB ports to keep them entertained.
Under the hood, the 2020 Terra in Thailand uses a 2.3-liter twin-turbo diesel engine. Even with the assistance of an extra turbo, it still makes the same power as the 2.5-liter we have here. The output is rated at 190 PS, along with 450 Nm of torque. Power is then sent to a seven-speed automatic transmission. 4WD is available, depending on the variant chosen.
Could this refreshed Terra makes its way to the Philippines? We're not quite sure. The Energetic Package is a limited-edition model for the Thai market. And since the 2021 model is (literally) a day away, we reckon Nissan Philippines would rather wait for the facelifted model.
