Drivers that frequently travel along North Luzon Expressway (NLEX) and Subic Clark Tarlac Expressway (SCTEX) at night will soon benefit from brighter lights, as well as from bigger signage.
This comes after the NLEX Corporation officially announced that they are currently upgrading the lights and signs along NLEX and SCTEX as part of its enhancement program.
“With over 1,000 brighter lights and more than 600 new signs for installation, we are aiming to clearly, directly, and safely guide motorists to their destinations. These continuing enhancement efforts also stemmed from the suggestions of our customers through various touchpoints such as stakeholder consultations, dialogues, fora, surveys, and social media,” said J. Luigi L. Bautista, president and general managerof NLEX Corporation.
This February, the company will begin the replacement of 1,078 interchange and median LED lights from NLEX Balintawak all the way to Tabang. According to the NLEX Corporation, the old lights in certain expressway sections need to be replaced as their brightness have reduced over time. In addition to that, NLEX Corporation said that the new lights will have better luminosity at 20 lux compared to the current ones that are still at 12 lux.
As for the signage upgrades, both the northbound and southbound directions of NLEX-SCTEX will involve the replacement of the old signs, as well as putting up additional road signs for improved visual navigation. The new signs that will be put up will also be bigger, have larger fonts, and have better reflectivity in order to be more visible come nighttime.
“NLEX Corporation recognizes the importance of providing adequate lighting and appropriate road signs for safe and efficient expressway travel of our motorists,” added Bautista.
NLEX Corporation is looking to complete the project by May of 2020.
