More roadworks are scheduled to take place along the North Luzon Expressway (NLEX). NLEX Corporation announced that starting tonight, June 1, the entire stretch of the southbound Meycauayan Bridge will be closed to traffic from 10:00 PM until 4:00 AM the next day.
The closure of the southbound direction of the bridge is needed so that NLEX Corporation can start on Phase 1 of the Meycauayan Bridge Rehabilitation Project. From June 1 until June 4, the full bound closure will give way to girder replacement.
To keep southbound traffic moving, a counterflow lane will be put up on the northbound portion of the Meycauayan Bridge. NLEX Corporation will also deploy traffic patrol crews/marshals in strategic areas to ensure motorists are guided accordingly.
NLEX Corporation started work on the rehabilitation of the Meycauayan Bridge (and Bigaa Bridge) a few weeks back. At the time, repair works were limited to segments of the 45-meter road link. But with the girders needing replacement, the company decided the best option is to shut down the entire southbound direction to ensure the safety of motorists.
The rehabilitation of the southbound portion of the Meycauayan Bridge is expected to be completed by September 2021. To keep traffic flowing, rehabilitation works are being done in stages. Work on the northbound direction will begin once work on the southbound segment is complete.
If you plan on heading to Metro Manila or further south via NLEX late in the evening, better schedule your trip at an earlier time. Given the timing relative to the quarantine curfew, we do expect that most of the affected motorists will be truckers making deliveries to the NCR.
