It seems like every luxury auto brand is heading towards an electric future.
From Audi, to Mercedes-Benz, to Lexus, and even Volvo, electric power is proving its worth as an alternate means of powering cars of all shapes and sizes.
Now Cadillac is also bracing for that future with the reveal of its first-ever electric vehicle (EV) concept. The yet-to-be-named EV takes on the form a stylish seven-seater crossover and features General Motors' (GM) future EV platform.
“Cadillac’s EV will hit the heart of the crossover market and meet the needs of customers around the world. It will represent the height of luxury and innovation while positioning Cadillac as the pinnacle of mobility,” said Steve Carlisle, president of Cadillac.
The EV concept looks unlike anything Cadillac has ever designed. It has a distinct front fascia that mixes both futuristic and aggressive styling cues. Sharp lines, along with muscular curves also give the crossover its unmistakable profile from any direction. Also worth mentioning on the EV concept is the redesigned logo of the Cadillac brand. Perhaps this could mean that the EVs will carry a unique interpretation of the signature Cadillac 'shield'.
As mentioned earlier, the new concept features GM's future EV platform which is capable of carrying various electric models. Moreover, the platform is modular, meaning it can be set to front-wheel drive, rear-wheel drive and even all-wheel drive. Cadillac says the output of the battery packs can also be adjusted accordingly in order to maximize the space and technologies needed for each body style.
Should Cadillac's ambition of a fully-electric, luxury crossover be made into reality, it could go up against the like of the Tesla Model X, Mercedes-Benz EQ C, Audi e-quattro, BMW i3, and Jaguar i-Pace as such.
For now, we'll have to wait and see as to where Cadillac takes it EV plans in the not so distant future.
