The Toyota Vios GR-S has been making its way around South East Asia. It first debuted in Malaysia alongside their local launch of the GR Yaris followed by Vietnam. Now, the sportier, “Gazoo-fied” Vios has finally made its way to the Philippines. We had some questions about the model, and Toyota Motor Philippines were happy to answer them.
One of the biggest questions we had was where the Vios GR-S' place of assembly. For reference, the Malaysia and Vietnam-spec Vios GR-S models come from Thailand. As you may know, all Vios models sold locally roll-off the Sta. Rosa assembly plant. The question now is whether the Philippine-spec GR-S is also assembled here or imported from Thailand. Remember, aside from the new kit, the Vios GR-S also features a new 10-speed CVT exclusive to the model. It also has a revised interior with sportier accents.
Surprisingly, TMP says the Vios GR-S is assembled locally, along with the rest of the Vios models built at the Sta. Rosa plant. Because of that, the automaker was able to keep the prices low. Specifically, the Vios GR-S is just a shy over PHP 1 million, depending on the color. More importantly, buyers of the new sportier Vios do not have to pay the extra PHP 70,000 as part of the safeguard bond.
Since the Vios GR-S is built locally, it also means parts will be easily available to order. It's also why TMP now offers the Vios GR-S kits and parts to all current-generation Vios owners. So even if you don't own a Vios GR-S, you can purchase the styling package at Toyota dealerships and give your Vios a sportier look. Vios GR-S owners will also be proud to know that they are driving a Gazoo Racing tuned vehicle made in the Philippines.
