Mercedes-AMG is entering a new era with the announcement of the new SLS AMG Coupe Electric Drive. It is their emission-free super sports car featuring Formula 1 technology and is considered as the most powerful AMG high-performance vehicle.
The SLS AMG Coupé Electric Drive features four electric motors producing a total output of 740hp and a maximum torque of 1000Nm as compared to the current model SLS AMG GT which has a total of 591 hp under its hood. The very special gullwing model accelerates from zero to 100 km/h in 3.9 seconds, and can reach an electronically limited top speed of 250 km/h. One feature reserved exclusively for the SLS AMG Coupé Electric Drive is the 'AMG electricbeam magno' paint finish.
"Our vision of the most dynamic electric vehicle has become a reality. With the help of our colleagues at Mercedes AMG High Performance Powertrains in Brixworth, we are bringing exciting advanced technology from the world of Formula 1 to the road", according to Ola Källenius, Chairman of the Board of Management of Mercedes-AMG GmbH.
In place of the conventional AMG engine growl, engineers developed a soundtrack that starts with the characteristic start-up sound followed by a tailor-made driving sound for each driving situation. The sound is not only dependent on road speed, engine speed and load conditions, but also reflects the driving situation and the vehicle's operating state with a suitable driving noise. All of these comes out of the eleven loudspeakers scattered inside the cabin.
Ideally the SLS AMG Coupé Electric Drive is charged with the aid of a so-called 'wall box'. Installed in a home garage, this technology provides a 22 kW quick-charge function, which is the same as the charging performance available at a public charging station which takes only three hours to completely charge the batteries. Without the wall box, charging takes around 20 hours. The wall box is provided as an optional extra from Mercedes-AMG.
Alongside the SLS AMG Coupé Electric Drive at the 2012 Paris Motor Show, Mercedes-Benz also previewed another Electric Drive model, the B-Class Electric Drive together with some more models like the B 200 Natural Gas Drive, the new A-Class, CLS Shooting Brake, and the SLS AMG GT. A sculpture of the 'Aesthetics S' was also displayed to provide an artistic vision of the design of luxury saloons in the near future.
The Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG Coupé Electric Drive will be celebrating its market launch in Germany next year with a price of 416,500 euros(PhP22,359,098.00)
