First released via online images, the Japanese automaker has just taken the wraps off of the Toyota CH-R concept at the 2014 Paris Motor Show. Set to slot into the C-segment crossover category, the CH-R carries the brand's new diamond style design language along with 20 years of the brand's creativity. According to Toyota, it recaptures the design and packaging of the original RAV4, the hybrid technology first featured in the Prius and the GT86's driving dynamics and dexterity.
The CH-R's body dimensions measure 4350mm long, 1850mm wide and 1500mm high. The lower section of the bodywork features a 'precision cut-faceted look' while each corner of the body shell have been shaved off. This gives the CH-R a planted stance as well as a reduced mass that highlights the car's flared wheel arches.
The front section of the car has a slim grill design that is reminiscent of a wing design and it wraps around the front corners of the vehicle. The headlights are integrated with 3d-fashioned DRLs. In further emphasizing the angular front end, the lower grill is accented by sculpted downward shapes that is accompanied by a floating front spoiler.
The side profile of the car features a sloped cabin roofline that is complimented by a glasshouse that wraps around the entirety of the car. This gives the roof a hovering effect and the rear section of the car an extended look. The C-Pillars contribute to the 'extended' length of the back end of the car. Aero-inspired thin taillight clusters continue the hovering effect while a unique set of blade-styled alloy wheels asserts the car's styling.
Toyota did not say any powertrain specifics but they did state that the CH-R will utilize a new full hybrid system that will give higher fuel efficiency.
The concept is one of the company's manifestation under the new Global Vision spearheaded by Akio Toyoda back in 2011. The company perceived that Europe is one of the most discerning vehicle markets so they use the continent in benchmarking A-, B- and C-segment vehicles. For the CH-R itself, Toyota's product planning centers in Japan worked alongside Toyota Europe in order to gain a better understanding Europe's customer demands and trends.
