The X4 and X6 crossovers from BMW will soon be joined by a smaller model after the automaker premiered the X2 concept at this year's Paris Motor Show. Designed and built to preview BMW's latest crossover, the new high-riding coupe features a unique shape that blends ruggedness and sportiness according to BMW.
Up front, the X2 concept bears signature BMW styling elements like the kidney-grill and dual headlights(which use laser light illumination). Soft curves and sharp lines can be seen throughout the concept, particularly the hood, wheel arches, front and rear bumpers, C-pillar and tailgate as well.
The tapered glasshouse at the back highlights the X2's shoulder lines which helps the car's aerodynamic properties. The eye-catching L-shaped LED taillights were tweaked as well to provide better lighting.
Meanwhile, the short front/rear overhangs, stretched roofline and long wheelbase highlight the X2's low-slung body contsruction. Finished in Luminous Red, the bright hue is accented by the two-tone 21-inch lightweight alloys wheels, window grahpic surrounds finished in aluminum, the hallmark Hofmeister kink and large dual exhaust pipes.
“The BMW Concept X2 is a vehicle for active people looking for a combination of enjoyment and practicality. The concept displays a new and exciting facet of the BMW brand within the compact segment,” said Adrian van Hooydonk, senior vice president at BMW Group Design.
The powertrain of the X2 concept was not stated though it is highly likely that it will share its platform with the new X1, along with the available TwinPower Turbo engines. It is expected that the production version of the X2 may arrive at 2018.
