Commuters and motorists that frequently go to Cubao or Manila via Aurora Boulevard in the early hours of the morning will have to find an alternate route starting this coming Saturday.
That’s because the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) recently announced that a portion of the boulevard will be closed to vehicles soon. Starting January 25 until February 1, a private contractor of the Department of Transportation (DOTr) will begin transferring escalator units from a truck to the LRT-2 Cubao Station using a mobile crane.
With it, a section of Aurora Boulevard between the streets of Oxford and Imperial will be closed off to vehicular traffic. However, in order to lessen inconvenience to motorists, the contractors will only work from 12:01 AM until 5:00 AM.
Private and public utility vehicles bound for Manila are advised to turn right to Yale Street or Oxford Street, turn right to Columbia Street, turn left to Imperial Street or West Point Street, and then back to Aurora Boulevard.
With a total of 11 escalator units set to be transferred starting tomorrow, the DOTr and their private contractor will have their work cut out for them. Let’s hope that this will not cause too much inconvenience to motorists and commuters alike.
