Oil industry leader Petron, in line with its thrust for better fuel economy through safe and responsible motoring, hosted a driving clinic session last 25 October 2008 at the Petron station at Macapagal Boulevard in Pasay City. This driving clinic was the latest staging of the Petron Xtra Unleaded "Fuel Drive" advocacy, aimed at imbuing Filipino drivers with optimal driving habits to lessen their fuel consumption, as well as to encourage road safety through responsible motoring.
Geared towards providing Filipino motorists with skills to make them responsible drivers, the clinic specifically targeted and invited everyday drivers to the sessions. The Petron Fuel Drive program consisted of lectures on safety driving by champion circuit driver Louis Ramirez, as well as fuel economy tips by Petron technical engineer Mon Cruz. With Toyota Motor Philippines as the official vehicle partner, Toyota representatives were also on hand to talk about vehicle maintenance.
After the morning lectures, the afternoon session was allocated for hands-on learning with track activities, including mini-driving competitions for the following awards: best u-turn, best slalom, best braker, and perfect run.
"At a time when gasoline prices are so volatile in the market, Petron Fuel Drive is a very timely advocacy to educate drivers about the importance of fuel economy and road safety through responsible motoring," noted Charmaine Canillas, Petron advertising and promotions director. Canillas also added that with such fuel products like Petron Xtra Unleaded, Petron has always been supportive of conscientious fuel consumption among the nation's motorists.
The objectives of Petron Fuel Drive are : First, to teach motorists driving smarts and maintenance skills that will help them save fuel; second, to make defensive driving and road courtesy second nature to drivers; and third, to educate them of the many fuel options from Petron for savings and fuel economy. Partners for the latest staging were Toyota Motor Philippines, and 103.5 Max FM.
