European Car of the Year winner arrives in the Philippines
Peugeot Philippines has just launched their latest addition to the local market with the all-new 308 hatchback and station wagon. For the Philippines, both body styles will be available in either Allure or GT Line trim.
Awarded as the European Car of the Year in 2014, the 308 and 308 Station Wagon expand Peugeot Philippines' lineup to 11 cars. The 308 follows the marque's corporate face, with the floating front grill and its swept back headlights. For the GT Line, it will get segment-first full LED headlights, while the rest of the range gets LED daytime running lights. In addition, the GT Line sports a more aggressive front bumper design and GT Line exclusive tailpipes.
The side profile of the 308 and 308 station wagon are defined by three character lines. The first one connects the headlights and the tail lights and the second follows the crease found in its 'C' shaped tailights. The third character line runs just above the door sills. The 308 hatchback measures in at 4,253 mm long, 1,804 mm wide and 1, 457 mm tall. The station wagon on the other hand is at 4,585 mm long, 1,804 mm wide and 1,471 mm tall. For the GT Line models, height is lowered by 10 mm in the hatchback and 20 mm in the station wagon. Wheel sizes range from 16 inches to 18 inches.
Inside, the 308 features Peugeot's i-Cockpit dashboard layout, first seen in the 208 GTi. The i-Cockpit layout puts the instrument binnacle higher up the dash for less eye movement when glancing at the speedometer and tachometer.
Standard in all models is a 9.7 inch touchscreen monitor, which is flanked by two aircon vents. The large touchscreen serves as the car's infotainment system along with the airconditioning and other vehicle functions, replacing most of the buttons on the center console. All 308 variants come with a leather-wrapped steering wheel with audio controls and cruise control, an automatic dimming rear-view mirror and an electronic parking brake.
There are a total of four variants for the 308 and 308 station wagon, starting off with the 1.6 Allure hatchback. The Allure hatchback is the only 308 in the lineup to come with a turbocharged gas engine called THP and puts out 150 PS and 240 Nm of torque. Starting from the Allure station wagon to the GT Line models, they are all equipped with a 1.6 liter turbodiesel that produces 120 PS and 300 Nm of torque.
In the safety front, both the 308 and 308 station wagon come standard with six airbags, electronic stability control, hill start assist and anti-lock brakes.
Colors choices for the 308 and 308 station wagon include Nera Black, Bianca White, Aluminum Grey and Dark Blue. Exclusive to the GT Line are Magnetic Blue, Ruby Red and Pearl White.
