While turbos seem to be the way for the top versions of the 911, PGA Cars gives us a glimpse of a purer, naturally aspirated 911 with the new Carrera GTS.
With a power output of 408 hp and Porsche's trademark vehicle dynamics, the new 911 Carrera GTS marks the new peak of the new Carrera model series. 23 hp more than the 911 Carrera S enable the new GTS - available as Coupé and Cabriolet - with 3.8-liter engine to close the gap up to the 911 GT3 with 435 hp.
Unique within the Carrera family, the 911 Carrera GTS combines the 44 millimeter wider Carrera 4 body of the AWD models including a wider track with the classic rear-engine, rear-wheel drive layout. And there are many more details which distinguish appearance and technology of a GTS from other Carrera models.
Special attention was paid to extract more power from the 3.8-liter flat engine to deliver 408 hp. As a standard, the Carrera GTS has a six-speed manual transmission or can be fitted a seven-speed Porsche Doppelkupplungsgetriebe (PDK). In comparison with the Carrera S, top speed of the model with manual transmission is now 306 km/h.
The current body 911, the 997 Series, has been available since 2005, and is the most successful 911, commercially-speaking, since the nameplate's introduction in 1963.
