There are many wondering why we in the automotive press have rated the Geely Coolray, a small crossover from China, so highly.
Well the proof is in the pudding, or at least in the case of the auto industry, the sales charts.
Just recently, Sojitz G Auto Philippines Corporation (SGAP), the official distributor of Geely in the country, achieved record sales as the company bounced back from the sales suspension in the past couple of months.
Based on the latest CAMPI and AVID sales reports, the Geely Coolray is the top-selling model among 5-seater subcompact crossovers this June with 154 units sold. Moreover, Geely Philippines also placed 10th overall in June with 184 combined units sold of the Coolray and Azkarra. This translates to a 160% jump from its 70 units sold last May.
With it, this is the brand's highest monthly sales record since January of this year. For the first half of 2020, the company has sold a total of 549 units.
“This is definitely a very positive development as every auto brand tries to bounce back during this post-ECQ period. We are very delighted of this outcome since it is mainly driven by one model, the Coolray and only one showroom located in North Edsa,” said Mikihisa Takayama, president, and CEO of SGAP.
With the company planning to launch three more models soon, Geely Philippines wants to expand its model lineup and offer more than just the Geely and Azkarra crossovers. Based on the mysterious silhouettes present at Geely PH's website, the company might be debuting a bigger crossover, an MPV, and a sedan.
Based on the teasers, it looks like the automaker is set to debut the Haoyue, the Jia Ji, and the Binrui. But just like the Coolray and Azkarra, we can expect that the upcoming cars will have a different name once they arrive in the country.
“We expect Geely sales to improve further as we open new dealership outlets and further complement our product line up this year,” added Takayama.
With Geely's sales figure on the rise, expect to see more Coolrays, Azkarras, and more models from Geely populating the road soon.
