Mercedes-Benz Philippines introduces diesel and AMG-powered GLC
Mercedes-Benz Philippines has launched an all-out assault in the crossover market with the release of three GLC variants on top of the standard GLC 200. The model expansion sees an all-wheel drive turbodiesel, AMG and coupe joining the local range.
With the GLC 200 serving as the entry-level variant, the GLC 220d AMG 4Matic sits above it. As the name suggests, this GLC gets diesel power courtesy of a 2.1-liter mill with 170 PS and 400 Nm of torque. It also benefits from all-wheel drive which the base GLC 200 does not have.
Further distinguishing the GLC 220 d from the GLC 200 is the AMG package. It gets sportier add-ons such as a unique front and rear bumper treatment, and larger AMG-spec alloy wheels. The package goes beyond cosmetics as the AMG pack also adds cross-drilled vented brakes at the front and a sportier suspension which sits 20 mm lower than the standard models.
Jazzing up the GLC range is the GLC Coupe, shown here in GLC 250 form. It retains all-wheel drive but gets a more powerful, turbocharged gas engine. From its boosted 2.0-liter engine, the GLC 250 Coupe packs 211 PS and 350 Nm of torque. There's also the sleek rear-end treatment which is unique the the GLC Coupe with its sloping roofline and C-Class Coupe-inspired tail lights.
Last but not least is the most powerful GLC Mercedes-Benz Philippines offers. Dubbed the GLC 43 AMG, it boasts a healthy 367 PS and a substantial 520 Nm of torque from its 3.0-liter bi-turbo V6. Factory performance figures sees the sports crossover hit 0 to 100 km/h in 4.9 seconds and a top speed electronically-governed at 250 km/h.
Subtle visual cues hint at the crossover's sporting intentions. It sits lower than standard GLCs and has more silver trimmings on the outside. Large cross-drilled brakes peek through the multi-spoke AMG alloy wheels and the grill's unique applique sets it apart from non-AMG models.
