Philippine auto sales for the second month of 2019 totaled 30,644 units, as reported by members of the Chamber of Automotive Manufacturers of the Philippines, Inc. (CAMPI), Truck Manufacturers Association (TMA), and Association of Vehicle Distributors (AVID).
Sales edged slightly higher by 1.78% compared to last month's 30,287 units.
"We are encouraged by the good sales performance of AVID for the month which signals stronger consumer confidence as well as the preference for top-notch products. While we are still in the early part of the year, we have gotten over the hump and expect a robust recovery for the automotive industry," said Ms. Ma. Fe Perez-Agudo, AVID president.
Passenger car (PC) sales totaled 10,632 units, covering 34.7% of the market. Commercial vehicles (CV) continued to dominate the market at 20,012 units or 65.3% of the market.
Light Commercial Vehicles (LCV) led the CV subsegments, comprising 82.34% of CV sales with 16,477 units sold; 2% less than last month's 16,783 total. AUV/MPV segment sold 2,227 units, down 7.6% from 2,410. Truck and bus sales were mostly up. Light truck sales jumped 32.6%, selling a total of 738 units compared to the previous month's 512 unit total. Category 4 Heavy Duty Truck and Bus sales totaled 368 units (+11%) compared to last month's 332 units. Category 5 Heavy Duty Truck and Bus slid down to 89 units, (-22%) compared to last month's 110 units. AVID members Hyundai Asia Resources Inc. and JAC Automobile International Philippines Inc. logged a total of 128 truck units sold.
The top five performing manufacturers for the month of February are:
1. Toyota (w/ Lexus) – 9,267 units (30.24% market share)
2. Mitsubishi (w/ Fuso) – 5,200 units (16.29% market share)
3. Hyundai - 3,725 (12.12% market share)
4. Nissan – 3,523 units (11.5% market share)
5. Honda– 2,492 units (6.91% market share)
Toyota Motor Philippines Corporation continues its commanding lead of the market with 33.84-percent. Mitsubishi Motors Philippines Corporation follows in second with 17.13-percent. Nissan Philippines Inc. in a strong third with 10.87%. Hyundai Asia Resources, Inc. is in fourth with 10.7%, and Honda Cars Philippines, Inc. in fifth position with 7.28-percent.
