Philippine auto sales for the month of March 2019 totaled 36,288 units, as reported by members of the Chamber of Automotive Manufacturers of the Philippines, Inc. (CAMPI), Truck Manufacturers Association (TMA), and Association of Vehicle Distributors (AVID).
Sales jumped 18.16% from the previous month’s 30,712 unit total, which is revived optimism on the industry’s projected recovery this year.
The double-digit growth during the month of March compared to the same month last year is a strong indication that the automotive industry is well on its way to recovery. We are optimistic that this trend will be sustained in the coming months,” said Atty. Rommel Gutierrez, CAMPI president.
Passenger car (PC) sales totaled 11,244 units, covering 30.99% of the market. Commercial vehicles (CV) captured a larger share of the market at 25,044 units or 69.01% of the market.
Light Commercial Vehicles (LCV) led the CV subsegments, comprising 82.87% of CV sales with 20,755 units sold; 25.96% more than last month's 16,477 total. AUV/MPV segment sold 2,753 units, up 23.6% from 2,227. Truck and bus sales were mostly up. Light truck sales gained 6.8%, selling a total of 781 units compared to the previous month's 738 unit total. Category 4 Heavy Duty Truck and Bus sales surged to 522 units (+41.8%) compared to last month's 368 units. Category 5 Heavy Duty Truck and Bus went up to 110 units, (35.8%) from last month's 89 units. AVID members Hyundai Asia Resources Inc. and JAC Automobile International Philippines Inc. logged a total of 123 truck units sold.
The top five performing manufacturers for the month of March are:
1. Toyota (w/ Lexus) – 12,932 units (35.64% market share)
2. Mitsubishi Motors – 5,449 units (15.02% market share)
3. Nissan – 4,616 units (12.72% market share)
4. Hyundai - 3,412 (9.40% market share)
5. Honda– 1,968 units (5.42% market share)
Toyota Motor Philippines Corporation continues its commanding lead of the market with 34.46-percent. Mitsubishi Motors Philippines Corporation follows in second with 16.03-percent. Nissan Philippines Inc. in a strong third with 11.54%. Hyundai Asia Resources, Inc. is in fourth with 10.22%, and Honda Cars Philippines, Inc. in fifth position with 6.58-percent.
