Seventh-gen Golf GTI to commence delivery by Q1 of 2015
Volkswagen Philippines previewed the Mk7 Golf GTI at the 2014 Philippine International Motor Show. The much-awaited hot hatch is expected to increase the brand’s presence in the market owing to its heritage and popularity among performance car enthusiasts.
The GTI is the factory-tuned version of the Mk7 Golf which features aesthetic and performance upgrades. These include a more aggressive styling package, sport suspension, brake upgrades and a more powerful engine than standard versions.
Some of the aesthetic improvements to the exterior include 18-inch GTI 'Austin' wheels, GTI grill, bumpers, GTI color-keyed rear spoiler, GTI LED tail lamps, and GTI tailpipes.
Inside, GTI exclusive parts like the steering wheel, shifter, pedals, scuff plates, leatherette door and side trim inserts, 'checkered black’ dashboard and center console inserts continue to add to its performance feel. Seating is a combination of 'Clark' fabric and Alcantara.
Under the hood is a 2.0-liter TSI inline-4 capable of 220 PS @ 4500-6200 rpm and 350 Nm of torque at 1500 to 4400 rpm. It is mated to a 6-speed DSG transmission driving the front wheels. A performance package available for other markets, gives an additional 10 PS.
The VW Golf GTI will be available in five colors: White, Red, Black, Grey, and Blue. Pre-orders are currently being taken with deliveries scheduled to commence Q1 of 2015. Pricing is estimated at Php2,300,000.
