The BMW brought in the BMW i8 at this year's Philippine International Motor Show (PIMS). First revealed at the Frankfurt Motor Show back in 2013, the second i model is now in the country for PIMS visitors to behold from September 14 to 18 at the World Trade Center in Pasay City.
Combining TwinPower Turbo and Efficient Dynamics conservation technologies, the BMW i8 boasts of a unique powertrain, along with a futuristic design that highlight's the car's sleek aesthetics.
The second i model, after i3, is powered by a 1.5 liter TwinPower Turbo gasoline engine with 3 cyclinders producing an output of 231 PS and 320 Nm of torque. The power is then transferred to the rear wheels via a 6-speed automatic.
On the other hand, the eDrive electric motor produces an output of 130 PS and 250 Nm of torque, and 362 PS and 570 Nm of torque, when operated in electric vehicle mode. When operated in tandem with the petrol engine, it allows the car to launch from 0-100km/h in only 4.4 seconds. The vehicle can also be plugged in to a propriety home charging system to top up the batteries.
Other amenities include: butterfly doors, a fully digital instrument cluster display, the BMW iDrive freestanding Control Display on the center console, and the Navigation system Professional with a proactive drive system for all-electric driving.
Unfortunately, BMW remains tight lipped on whether the i8 will formally be sold in the country.
