BMW's sports hybrid will soon be arriving in the Philippines after the automaker announced that the i8 will be present at the 2016 Philippine International Motor Show (PIMS).

The BMW i8 made its first debut in 2013 under their new sub-brand, i. It is their second model after the i3 and features the latest technology from Efficient Dynamics. It is driven by a TwinPower Turbo 1.5 liter 3-cylinder engine that is helped along by an electric motor. It has a combined output of 362 PS and 569 Nm of torque. Power is then transferred to a 6-speed automatic gearbox that drives all four wheels. It can go from 0 – 100 km/h in 4.4 seconds and has an average fuel consumption of 40km/l.

Aside from the unique powertrain, BMW also extensively used carbon fiber reinforced plastic (CFRP) throughout the sports hybrid. The cockpit and doors are made from the said material which allows the i8 to have a curb weight of 1,490 kg. The instrumental panel, on the other hand, has a magnesium support for better rigidity.

The BMW i8 will be present from September 14 – 18 at the World Trade Center in Pasay City.
