Toyota's vision of the next-generation sports coupe will make an appearance at the 6th Philippine International Motor Show after the automaker posted a teaser photo of the FT-1 concept which will be on display from September 14 to 18 at the World Trade Center.
According to the company, it is their ultimate expression in coupe design and takes styling cues from past models such as the Celica, 2000GT, Supra, MR2 and the 86. Aggressive styling dominates the entirety of the car with its arrary of sharp lines, curves, ducting and vents.
Calty Design Research, along with Gran Turismo developer, Polyphony Digital, helped in the design of the FT-1 and also made it available in the video game Gran Turismo 6.
It adopts the classic front-engine, rear wheel drive construction, with the cockpit placed slightly further back to improve weight distibution. The wraparound windshield is an homage to the much revered 2000GT of the 1960s.
Inside, the FT-1 has an F1-inspired steering wheel while the seats are placed low to the ground. It even has A-pillars that are set far back for better cornering vision. A headsup display helps the driver monitor their speed, along with other telemetry information.
The FT-1 concept is rumored to be a preview of the next-generation Supra sports car. Just last week our spies managed to capture a camouflaged prototype of the alleged 2019 Toyota Supra testing in Europe.
Exact powertrain details have yet to be released but it is highly likely to be driven by a high-performance engine.
