The idea of a performance crossover seemed far fetched many years ago. Fast forward to today and we're seeing the country's first performance-oriented small crossover. As part of NISMO's expansion in the Philippines, Nissan Philippines Inc has debuted the Juke NISMO.
The Juke NISMO isn't just going to be an appearance package only either. Gone is the naturally aspirated 1.6-liter engine with its tame 116 PS rating. In goes a turbocharged 1.6-liter mill with 190 PS and 240 Nm of torque, which is a significant 74 PS more than the standard Juke. The result is a 0 to 100 km/h time of under 7.5 seconds, backing up the aggressive looks of that NISMO body and wing kit.
Not to overwhelm the front tires, the Juke NISMO benefits from all-wheel drive. It sits lower than the standard Juke too, with lowering springs and more aggressive damper settings. Brakes have been given an upgrade too, and are now larger in diameter for better stopping power. Transmission is a continuously variable unit with eight simulated gears.
It gets NISMO goodies inside and out too. Aside from the lower ride height, it gets pumped up with aggressive upgrades. It is fitted with a totally different front bumper from the standard model, it features gloss black and bright red highlights throughout the body, a front chin spoiler, unique side skirts, NISMO 18-inch alloy wheels, an integrated rear bumper diffuser and a taller tailgate spoiler.
The cabin gets carbon fiber trim and it gets deep bucket seats. The steering wheel also gets a thicker rim, and the dials have been given a sportier flair. Suede trimmings are also present in the Juke NISMO, from the seats to the door inserts.
For now, Nissan Philippines, Inc. has yet to announce the official pricing, as well as the launch date, of the hotted up Juke. What is certain, however, is the expansion of NISMO in the Philippines
