After giving us a 'sneak peak' of the facelifted Mazda6 and the all-new MX-5 a few weeks ago, Mazda Philippines has officially debuted the 2019 Mazda6 and MX-5. Aside from a few cosmetic changes here and there, both these models get more powerful engines for the 2019 model year.
Starting with the MX-5, Mazda Philippines now offers the popular open-top roadster with a new appearance package called the Club Edition. Compared to the standard variant, the Club Edition models get a new set of BBS wheels and a new exhaust, for an overall sportier appearance. Aside from those, no other visual changes being made to the body. Inside, new Recaro seats help give occupants a more snug fit.
Powering the MX-5 is the same 2.0-liter inline-four SkyActiv-G engine. However, it now produces more power thanks to some upgrades to the engine's interals including higher lift valves, larger diamater exhaust and retuned intake and injectors. Thanks to the upgrades, the MX-5 now produces 184 PS and 205 Nm of torque; an increase of 24 PS over the previous. Transmission choices still consist of a six-speed manual and a six-speed SkyActiv-Drive automatic, available on both the RF and standard MX-5.
As for the Mazda6 sedan, it now has a more sharper look with less curves on the front bumper. There is also a new grill together with sleeker LED headlights and light signatures. At the rear, the same design cues in the front was also applied here with new taillights and a sleeker bumper. Completing the exterior makeover is a new set of alloy wheels.
Inside, the dashboard has been updated to have a more minimalist look. Only the steering wheel and and certain trim pieces including the large 8-inch infotainment display can be seen above the dash with most of the buttons hidden in the center console together with the new automatic climate control system. New features of the Mazda6 include a 360-degree view monitor, 7-inch multi-info gauge display and air conditioned front seats.
Power wise, the Mazda6 continues to be offfered with a 2.2-liter turbo-diesel SkyActiv-D or a naturally aspirated 2.5-liter SkyActiv-G gasoline engine. Both these engines have been given an upgrade, and now produces more power while being more fuel efficient. The turbo-diesel engine now produces 190 PS and 450 Nm of torque while the 2.5 SkyActiv-G now produces 190 PS and 252 Nm torque.
