There have been lesser incidents of vehicle theft last year compared to 2014 and this can be attributed to increased effort by the Philippine National Police-Highway Patrol Group (PNP-HPG) ensuring the safety of motorists.

Theft of motorbikes and vehicles went down by a total of 15.16-percent during the period of October to December 2015 compared to the previous year.

Vehicle theft went down 33.3-percent in December 2015 from a total of 90 cases in December 2014 to only 60 last month.

Despite the increased number of vehicle theft incidents in the month of October and November 2015, the total number of carnapping cases went down by 6.13-percent in the last three months of 2015 compared to 2014.

According to PNP-HPG spokesperson Supt. Elizabeth Velasquez, the deployment and visibility of the PNP-HPG along EDSA and other major areas in Metro Manila have been a major factor in deterring carnapping.
