New Polestar Production Center to open mid-2018
Polestar, Volvo Cars’ performance brand and company, is about to set up shop in Asia right on the heels of the announcement that the company will debut its very first model last October 2017.
The new state-of-the-art Polestar Production Center will be built in Chengdu, China and will be the most environmentally-responsible automobile factory in China, according to Volvo.
Designed by international award-winning architects Snöhetta from Norway, the center also aspires to be one of the efficient in the world by aiming for the Gold status based on the standards set by globally-recognized Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED).
The completion of the nine-month construction plan is by mid-2018, which sets the center up for equipment installation and pre-production testing.
Once operational, the Polestar Production Centre will begin building the Polestar 1 – a Grand Touring Coupé with a 608 PS Electric Performance Hybrid powertrain, capable of covering 150 kilometers on pure electric range, the longest pure electric distance of any hybrid car in the world.
Aside from the manufacturing plant, the facility will also house a customer experience center and a customer test track.
“Following the successful launch of the new Polestar brand in October, construction of the new Polestar Production Centre is the next step in turning our plans into reality. We are building a Production Centre that is a reflection of our brand. A facility that is modern, progressive, technically advanced and environmentally responsible. The Polestar Production Centre will be an embodiment of the Polestar brand,” said Thomas Ingenlath, Chief Executive Officer of Polestar.
