Porsche is introducing its first plug-in hybrid in the luxury class with the Panamera S E-Hybrid. It is a systematically advanced development of the parallel full hybrids with a more powerful electric motor, a higher-performance battery that supplies more energy and the ability to charge it externally from the electrical grid.
The Panamera S E-Hybrid boasts of a hefty 416 hp, 95 of which are provided by the electric motor. Its electric motor draws energy from a new lithium-ion battery that has 9.4 kWh energy capacity, exceeding the previous battery by over five folds. When connected to an industrial outlet, it can be charged within two and a half hours via the integrated on-board charger and the standard Porsche Universal Charger (AC), while conventional household outlets(in Germany) can charge the battery in less than four hours.
Aside from the battery capacity, its all-electric driving performance was also improved with regard to acceleration, range, and top speed. According to the New European Driving Cycle (NEDC) based tests, the Panamera S E-Hybrid has an all-electric driving range of 36 km (with the air conditioning and heating deactivated). Porsche meanwhile stated a more realistic range of 18-36km all-electric driving range.
The overall performance of the Panamera S E-Hybrid was also improved with a 0-100km/h acceleration time of 5.5 seconds that was achieved with the help of the electric boost function. Its top speed is at 270 km/h while during all-electric operating mode, it will yield a top speed of 135 km/h.
Along with the Panamera S E-Hybrid, two executive versions are also making their debut with an extended wheelbase and an entirely new three-liter V6 engine with biturbo that will be fitted on the Panamera S and Panamera 4S.
