North Avenue partly closed to make way for MRT 7 construction
If you happen to pass through North Avenue as part of your everyday commute, better find an alternative route. The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) announced that a portion of the road, particularly eastbound (heading towards Elliptical Road), will be closed to traffic starting October 15, 2021.
Here's some more bad news. The closure won't last for a week or a month only. Instead, the MMDA says the partial closure of North Avenue will last until June 1, 2022, next year. That said, it's best to prepare an alternative route as early as now. However, motorists entering Wildlife and the Veterans Memorial Center can still pass through North Avenue.
The reason for the closure of North Avenue is to give way to the ongoing construction of the Metro Rail Transit Line 7 (MRT 7), which is a project of the Department of Transportation (DOTr). Those familiar with the area will know that this won't be the first time North Avenue has been closed to traffic. The portion of the road was previously closed due for the same reasons.
As an alternative route for motorists heading to Elliptical Road, they may turn right on Agham Road before taking Quezon Avenue and continuing to their destination.
The MMDA expects that the upcoming road closure would have less impact on traffic since it was closed to motorists previously. Nonetheless, it's best to plan your route ahead of time and expect traffic build-up in other roads following the closure of North Avenue later this week.
