“What was promised by Marcos and approved by the Ramos administration will now, under my watch, get underway.”
That was part of President Benigno Aquino III’s speech at the briefing on SLEX Toll Road 4 Project at Brgy. Lalig, Tiaong, Quezon just yesterday where the president happily spoke about the benefits this long overdue project will bring to Filipinos travelling to Quezon and how connecting a highway to Bicol would be much easier.
“Siyempre po, ‘pag merong nang ganyang kalsada, iyong papunta namang Bicol ay lalong dadali na maigawa na rin. Oras na makumpleto ito, ang biyahe mula Sto. Tomas hanggang Lucena na sabi sa atin ay inaabot nang apat na oras, magiging isang oras na lang,” said the president.
[“Of course, if we have a highway like this, it would make it easier to make one connecting Bicol. As soon as this (TR 4) is completed, travel time from Sto. Tomas to Lucena, which used to take four hours, will only take one hour.”]
The SLEX Toll Road 4 Project is spearheaded by the South Luzon Tollway Corporation in cooperation with the Department of Transportation and Communications – Toll Regulatory Board with the help of San Miguel Corporation at Citra Metro Manila Tollways Corporation.
Part of the High Standard Highway Network, the Toll Road 4 is a 57.590-kilometer highway with five sections starting from Sto. Tomas to Makban, San Pablo, Tiaong, Candelaria all the way to Lucena. Initial estimate cost in December 2014 was Php 9.50 billion but the president announced that the new budget for the four-lane highway project is now at Php 13.08 billion.
