All-new Hyundai Stargazer available in 3 variants, starts at PHP 998k
After giving us a preview of their newest 7-seat MPV, Hyundai Motor Philippines Inc (HMPH) has officially launched the 2023 Stargazer. Set to take on the likes of the Mitsubishi Xpander and Toyota Veloz, the Stargazer combines sleek modern styling, a comfy and relaxing interior, a fuel-efficient Smartstream powertrain, and a host of safety features.
Starting with its exterior, the MPV features an unmistakable look that Hyundai calls “Pioneering Spirit”. Borrowing inspiration from the Staria, the Stargazer gets a flush-type grille, bold multi-face reflector-style headlights (LEDs in top-spec variants), and an LED daytime running light that covers almost the entire width of the MPV.
Its sleek body combined with the angular wheel arches gives the MPV a more aerodynamic shape while also highlighting its one-curved silhouette. Rounding up the exterior eye-candy on the Stargazer are the signature H-shaped LED taillights that show off the MPV’s space-age design, as well as the 16-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels (16-inch monotone wheels on lesser models).
Size-wise, the 2023 Stargazer is 4460mm long, 1780mm wide, and 1695mm tall. It also has a generous 2780mm wheelbase and a ground clearance of 185mm.
Open the doors and the Stargazer greets its occupants with a comfortable interior. Leather seats come as standard on the GLS and GLS Premium models while the base model GL is upholstered in fabric. Infotainment in the MPV comes in two forms; the GLS and GLS Premium get an 8-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto while the GL comes with a standard 2-DIN sound system. The former comes with 6 speakers while the latter is only fitted with 4 speakers.
A 4.2-inch digital instrument panel also comes standard on the GLS and GLS Premium complete with a built-in multi-info display. The GL, on the other hand, gets standard gauges and a smaller 3.5-inch multi-info screen. Available only in the top-of-the-line GLS Premium is a folding tray table for the second row which makes for a more convenient riding experience.
Other available features present in the MPV include manual air-conditioning with rear vents, 60:40 split second-row seats, 50:50 split third-row seats, a center armrest for the second-row, a wireless charging pad on the center console, remote engine start, cruise control, drive mode select (Eco, Smart, Comfort, Sport), and charging ports for the front and rear passengers.
A 1.5-liter naturally-aspirated four-cylinder Smartstream engine powers the 2023 Stargazer. It makes 115 PS at 6300 rpm with 144 Nm of torque at 4500 rpm and benefits from dual continuously variable valve timing (D-CVVT). If those output figures look familiar, that’s because the Stargazer’s engine is shared with the Creta crossover.
Don’t expect to find a manual gearbox in the Hyundai Stargazer. That’s because all variants of the MPV (including the entry-level GL) come with Intelligent Variable Transmission (IVT). Unlike your typical CVT, Hyundai’s IVT makes use of a chain-driven system that they claim eliminates slippage and improves fuel economy.
In terms of safety, all models of the 2023 Stargazer come with dual front airbags and anti-lock. Electronic stability control (ESC), hill-start assist (HSA), rear parking sensors, and a reverse camera are only available in the GLS and GLS Premium.
Serving as the Stargazer’s extra pair of eyes is the Hyundai SmartSense driver assistance system. Exclusive only to the GLS Premium, the MPV comes fitted with intelligent driver aids that include blind-spot collision avoidance assist, rear-cross traffic collision avoidance assist, forward collision avoidance assist, lane-keeping assist, driver attention warning, safe exit warning, tire pressure monitoring system, and high-beam assist. Last but not least, the GLS Premium gets curtain and side airbags for added protection.
Available colors for the 2023 Hyundai Stargazer are Creamy White Pearl, Dragon Red Pearl, Magnetic Silver Metallic, and Midnight Black Pearl. For extra peace of mind, the MPV is covered by a 5-year/200,000 km warranty, whichever comes first.
