Upcoming Project 003 to join Aston Martin's hypercar lineup
After unveiling the Valkyrie and Valkyrie AMR Pro, Aston Martin has announced that a new hypercar is set to debut soon. Codenamed Project 003, it will be the third Aston Martin hypercar following the Valkyrie and Valkyrie AMR Pro, which were previously code named Project 001 and 002, respectively.
“It was always the intention for the Aston Martin Valkyrie to be a once-in-a lifetime project, however, it was also vital to us that Valkyrie would create a legacy: a direct descendent that would also set new standards within its own area of the hypercar market, creating a bloodline of highly specialised, limited production machines that can exist in parallel with Aston Martin’s series production models. I’m thrilled to announce that this car is the Project ‘003’, and our next step into a dynamic and exacting arena,” said Andy Palmer, Aston Martin Lagonda president and group chief executive.
For the time being, Aston Martin has revealed only a sketch of the upcoming hypercar which does not really show us much. That said, many of the Valkyrie's design cues can be seen in the sketch such as the aggressive front and the raised driver cabin in the center. However, do expect the design to be toned down once the production model debuts.
Much like the design, not much detail has been revealed about Project 003's powertrain. Aston Martin did mention that it will be built around a lightweight structure and is powered by a turbocharged gas-electric engine. Project 003 will also come with active aerodynamic to provide 'next-level precision, control' and handling both on the road and the track.
Unlike the Valkyrie and Valkyrie AMR pro, Project 003 will not be strictly performance focused. Aston Martin says it will still be practical features of most road-going vehicles. The upcoming hypercar will be available in both left and right-hand drive with production limited to 500 models globally. Expect the first cars to arrive in late 2021.
